Saturday Summary, June 2, 2012

It's a beautiful, sunny morning outside.  I'm sitting here in my bathrobe drinking coffee, I have an entire day of composing and writing to look forward to, and my son is sitting beside me on the floor in his bouncer, asleep, watched over by two plush monkeys.

Life is good.

Music -- I continued work this week on a handbell commission.  It's nearing completion, but not quite there yet.  A bit more work today and early next week ought to take care of that.  I also started some preliminary planning for a piece an editor has asked for -- I hope to get to the actual writing of it this week, as well.

Writing -- As any of you who have been here for long enough know, every year in November, I take part in National Novel Writing Month (or NaNoWriMo for short).  Last year, they started a summer version called Camp NaNoWriMo, which takes place in either June or August or both.  I decided to take the plunge, so yesterday I started work on a new novel of a new trilogy, an idea that came to me, as so many good ideas do, while I was driving to school one day.

For now, I'm not going to say much about the trilogy, other than to say it's a sort of teen action/adventure/thriller sort of story, and a little darker than what I usually write.  Regardless of whether anything comes of the story, it was an idea that intrigued me, and I hope to have fun writing it.

Publishing -- I got a proof this week of my first release from GIA Music, an original handbell composition entitled "Allegro con moto."  The piece hasn't even officially been released, and it's already starting to generate some buzz in the handbell community, which is both very gratifying and a little terrifying.

I think that's about it from here.  It was a full week of doing stuff, even if the results don't seem apparent here.  I hope this week was as good for you all as it was for me.  In the meantime, keep creating, and we'll see you back here Wednesday.
