Insane Update

I was asked by my sister last night what had become of the "Year of Insanity", since I'm horribly behind, according to the list at the bottom of this blog. Well, I have been composing; I've just been really bad about adding pieces to the YoI list at the bottom.  I'll be updating that today to make it current.  Three of the pieces are entries in a handbell composition contest, and in the spirit of fair play, I'm going to withhold the names of the pieces until the results are announced -- rest assured, I didn't just compose three different pieces all with the name "Contest Entry".

In other news, some of my spring pieces are showing up on various music retailers' websites.  Both Jeffers (handbellworld.com) and J.W. Pepper (jwpepper.com) have got my new pieces from Beckenhorst and Soundforth listed, though with very little information about them, and no recordings as of yet.  This is that exciting time of year (at least for me as a composer) when every day there's a new link or a new piece or a new audio file up somewhere on the web.  For many of these pieces, I've never heard them played on bells before, so hearing the recordings is a real treat for me -- sort of like Christmas in the middle of spring!

Also, if you haven't checked it out yet, I invite you again to go check out the excerpt from my novel The Coming of the Heroes, which is a quarter-finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest.  Feel free to read, share, post comments -- whatever!  If you need more instructions on how to view the excerpt, check the previous post on this blog.
