Saturday Summary, September 1, 2012

Another week has gone, and, as frequently happens, I'm not fully sure where it's gone to.  It's also the start of Labor Day weekend, which means my wife will be home for three days instead of two to help watch my son, so I'll actually end up doing more work this weekend than I would otherwise.

When you love your work as much as I do, though, that's not a bad thing ...

Music -- I've spent the whole week finishing up an arrangement of the song Jerusalem (the hymn featured in the movie Chariots of Fire), as well as working on (and nearly finishing) an arrangement of Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, both for handbells.  I'm hoping to get them polished this weekend and out into the world next week.

I've started one or two other projects, and those will probably become my main focus this coming week, but more about them next Saturday.

Writing -- I spent most of my writing days this week working on the rough draft of the third Sadonian Chronicles book.  I'm somewhere in the middle of the second chapter, and by the end of next week, ought to be into the third (I hope).  You never know, as you're writing, how long a chapter will really end up, or what parts of the story you'll get stalled on, but it's at least progressing, which is the direction we like it to go.

Publishing -- Not much here except two separate questions from two different editors about upcoming pieces.  Otherwise, no movement on this front.  I AM expecting a royalty check from one of my publishers to show up in the next week or so -- I'm always interested not just in the financial aspects of it, but also in the accounting of how many copies each piece sold.  It always surprises me which pieces people like, and the more sales information like that I have, the better I know what type of pieces people seem to want.  Not that it means I'll start tailoring my writing just to those sorts of pieces, but it's interesting info nonetheless.

That's it from here.  We're waiting on the remnants of Hurricane Isaac to hit us here in central Indiana this weekend, which for us means several inches of rain (very welcome rain, which might finally snap us out of the drought we've been in since about April).  Take care, have a great week, and we'll look for you back here on Wednesday!
