Thanks to the joys of scheduling, I'm actually writing this post on Friday afternoon, though it won't show up here on The Creative until Saturday morning. While it's showing up, I'll be on the northeast side of town leading the Handbell Musicians of America Area 5 Fallstars event. This gets together local directors and ringers and gives them a preview of the music that will be played at the Area 5 festival this spring. It's a great chance for me to gather with some fellow handbell enthusiasts and make music for a morning.
Music -- I've written quite a lot this week. I've worked on two or three different handbell pieces (one of which I'm not happy with and will probably either abandon or else start over from scratch), as well as pulled out some of my old, old piano pieces and looked at them. Sort of a nice walk down memory lane. (Also showed me just how much I steal from myself, as I found one piano piece I wrote about seven years ago became one of the melodies in my Escape Velocity, unbeknownst to me.)
I did finish up some pieces (see the Publishing section below), as well as finished the rough draft of a piece that now needs extra octaves and markings added. I hope to get to that this week.
Writing -- I've finished writing either synopses or general, rough thoughts about each of the remaining books of The Sadonian Chronicles and have started in on actually writing book 3. Technically this will be draft 3, but the first draft had many problems, and the second draft only got to about 3 chapters, so I'm going to start the whole thing over from scratch, using the original rough draft as a guide. There are large deviations from the story that was there, however, so it will only be a very rough guide.
Publishing -- Another good week on the publishing front, as I got a set of Lenten arrangements for 12 bell ensemble accepted. It's a fun challenge to write for only 12 bells (and all in the same key, so no fancy chords) and still have the pieces be musical, and I think I managed to do a fair job at it. I'm thrilled they're going to be published, and am already looking forward to writing some more.
That's it from here. Have a great, creative week, and we'll see you back here Wednesday!
