Finally! A week where I felt like I was productive, enough so that, while I didn't quite lay waste to my to-do list, I at least ransacked and pillaged it a bit. And yet, despite that, I still have this nagging feeling that I didn't quite do as much this week as I could have. Read on to find out more.
Music -- I had a really good week composing-wise, finishing up not one but two handbell pieces: a commission for a church in Nebraska, and a hymn medley for a publisher. Both were somewhat-largeish projects that had been hanging over my head for a bit, so it was quite a relief to get them finished and sent on. Neither is "officially" final yet, but at this point, any changes to them should be, hopefully, of the minor and easily-accomplished variety.
I do have other composing projects still on my plate, but those can wait a week or two before I begin them.
Writing -- Well, here we are, nine days into Camp NaNoWriMo, and I should, by all rights, have a word count of 15,000 by the end of the day. Right now, I've got about 3,800. There's no real excuse for it, except to say that I just haven't written. I've got the story ready (or at least the first several chapters of it, which ought to carry me through 20,000 words at least), but I just haven't taken the time -- the music projects above took precedence, as did spending time with my wife and son. However, I've got today totally clear, so my plan is to spend every spare minute I can find writing on this novel and seeing how far I can get.
Publishing -- As near as I can tell, nearly all of my newest handbell releases are up and available on most major retailer sites (at least on Jeffer's Handbell and J.W. Pepper). I can think of one that is not, and I know it's proofed and printed, so it should be available soon.
I also looked over the proof of my forthcoming arrangement of Be Still, My Soul, which I'm guessing will be available in late 2012. It's one I wrote a while back, so it's been fun going back and taking a look at it and remembering what I wrote.
That's about it from here. Aside from trying to get my way through this novel I'm working on, my other major plan for the week is to get myself totally ready to teach my two classes at the Handbell Musicians of America National Seminar next month. I've got the outlines for the classes, but I need to create the presentations I'll show during the event and figure out in more detail what I'll actually talk about. If I do need any sort of inspiration, I've got several years' worth of blog posts here at The Creative that I'm sure I can incorporate into my class somehow. Until next time then, have a fantastic weekend, and keep on creating!
