Saturday Summary, June 30, 2012

It's been so freakishly hot here the past couple of days that my lone foray into the outside world has been my daily trip to the mailbox and back.  The upside of the heat is that I get to spend a lot of time on some of my favorite indoor activities, like composing.

Music -- I finished two handbell pieces this week: an original entitled Little One, and a very rhythmic arrangement of Here We Come a-Wassailing.  Both are just in need of being proofread, then they'll be off into the Great Wide World.

I also pulled out a handbell trio I arranged several years back of Bach's Prelude in C, and was then inspired to attempt a new handbell trio of his Minuet in G.  I need to revisit them both in more detail to ensure they're actually playable, and then they may make their way into the wide world, as well.

Writing -- On Wednesday I announced my goal for the Year of Insanity 2 -- 1,000 words written every day in either the online journal Penzu or some fiction project (or a combination of the two -- posts for The Creative don't count).  I'm more worried about the consistency that comes from the act of sitting down every day to write than I am about any actual product that emerges.  My hope is that as I get more accustomed to doing this every day, the words will flow more easily, and will start to arrange themselves into meaningful things like novels and stories.  I'll be sure to keep you updated here on The Creative.

Publishing -- Not much here, though I did receive my semi-annual royalty check from SoundForth (a bit unexpected -- for some reason, I thought it would come in July.  No complaints, though.).  Beyond that, there was really nothing going on here -- no submissions, acceptances, rejections ... nothing.

That's it from here.  Despite how tiny the Summary looks, it really was a very productive week, one I was happy with (which is something I haven't been able to say that much of late).  I hope to keep that momentum going in this next week, so next week's Summary ought to be chock-full of good things, as well.  Until then, have a fantastic week, and keep creating!
