Saturday Summary, February 11, 2012

It's time for a brief and belated Saturday Summary -- it's one of those crazy run-around sort of days that forces me to squeeze this type of thing into the spare minutes.

Music -- I made a fair start on a couple of projects/pieces I've had on the Whiteboard for a while now, as well as finished some revisions on a couple of pieces that have been lurking at the side of my desk.  Nothing major to report here, however.  I do have a couple of other projects that just cropped up that I need to start and, God willing, can get finished in the next week or two.

Writing -- .......

Publishing -- In addition to a royalty check, I received more contracts and proofs to look at over the weekend.  I'm thrilled to be able to say that, as of right now, over 30,000 copies of my pieces of music have been sold, very nearly all of them pieces for handbells.  I know there are folks out there with many, many more sales to their name, but for this point in my career, I'm just thrilled and humbled beyond words that so many people have purchased and are playing my music.

Then, I received contracts and proofs for my three upcoming releases from Beckenhorst: Fum, Fum, Fum; Sleep in Heavenly Peace (a nice arrangement of Silent Night with a fair bit of singing bell); and Steadfast Assurance, a nice original that took several years to find a home.  It does make me happy that the folks at Beckenhorst have come to know and accept my quirky style of writing -- there's a chord in one of the pieces that has both a G-sharp and a G-natural, and they didn't even mark it with a question mark, but rather assumed it was just my wacky quirkiness at work.  (The chord was correct, for the record.)

That's it from here for now.  Despite the composing I'd like to get done in the coming weeks, I have two festivals coming up on the next three weeks for which I need to prepare, so time for creating may take a back seat to more practical matters.  As always, we'll keep you updated here.  Until then, have a fantastic week!
