Every Saturday, The Creative will feature a brief post about my current creative efforts and how they are progressing. If this doesn't interest you, read no further -- not only will I not be offended, I'll never know. The usual creativity-centric posts will return on Sunday.
This week, thankfully, was much less hectic than last week. Even so, I feel like I got precious little creating done. Still, the fact that I can say I got any creating done, I suppose I should count as a good thing.
Part of why I've been getting so little done on the creative side is that I've spending a fair bit of extra time trying to plan a concert for the Raleigh Ringers here in Indianapolis in June. I took the task on, thinking it would be a little bit of work, and I'm discovering that there are a thousand and one details that have to be worked out for a concert, especially one where I'm just acting as the intermediary between the theater and the performing group. Don't get me wrong -- it's totally worth it to have the Raleigh Ringers back here in Indianapolis again, but it's making for some busy weeks, let me tell you.
That being said, tickets ought to be on sale in a week or two, and when they are, I'll be sure to post the information here for all of you who want to travel to Indy to see an awesome concert.
Now, to business:
Music -- I did work a little bit on a project I'm trying to get done -- can't go into details here just yet, but it is something I need to get finished up in the next week or two. I also went back to my Abide with Me (which Kevin McChesney picked up last week), since he'd asked me to take a look at some of the dissonance and see if it was really what I wanted. Nothing major there, thankfully.
Writing -- My wife had a meeting downtown on Tuesday and I tagged along, found a Starbucks, and wrote for about two hours while she had her meeting. I actually hand-wrote about 15 new pages of story, which I haven't done in the past two or three years. As much as I love the computer and technology, there's something nice about actually taking pen to paper and letting the words flow. It can be a pain to go back and transcribe it later, but I feel like I get much better ideas when I write longhand, so in this case, the trade-off is worth it.
Publishing -- I received the proof for Come, Christians, Join to Sing from Hope in my email on Thursday, and then just yesterday heard back from Alan Lohr at Soundforth, and they're accepting both O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing and For the Bible Tells Me So. That brings the number of handbell piece I've had accepted to 50, a nice round number that I never would have dreamed I'd see so soon. Very exciting times.
That's really it from here. Our snow day yesterday actually allowed me to get caught up on a few things, so that's always welcome. I'll ignore for now the fact that we'll be going to school half-way through June. So, until next time, have a great week, and keep on creating!
