Every Saturday, The Creative will feature a brief post about my current creative efforts and how they are progressing. If this doesn't interest you, read no further -- not only will I not be offended, I'll never know. The usual creativity-centric posts will return on Sunday.
It's been Thanksgiving week here in the U.S., a time for friends and family to get together and mess up each other's creative schedules. As such, today's Saturday Summary will be quite short.
Music -- As I sit here and try to think, I'm not sure I've written so much as a note this week. I've been playing a lot of music -- the Christmas Season is upon us, after all -- and I've been planning a lot of music for upcoming concerts and church services, but I'm not sure I've taken the time to come up with even the first idea. Wow, that's more depressing than I thought it would be....
Writing -- NaNoWriMo draws to a close this week, so I've been feverishly trying to bring my novel to some sort of conclusion, even if it's just the point where I cross 50,000 words and say, "Enough with it." I did have the misfortune to discover that Google Docs, which I've been using to write my novel this year, tends to over-count words ... by quite a lot. On a whim, I copied my words from Google Docs into the Word Count Validator at the NaNoWriMo site, and immediately my word count dropped from about 46,400 to 45,200 ... so that was fun. I sit now just north of 49,000, so I hope to get finished word-count-wise this weekend. Who knows when I'll actually finish the story.
Publishing -- Again, with it being Thanksgiving week, most of the publishers have been down for the count this week. I got no acceptances, no rejections ... but I did get a check from Lorenz for one of my piano arrangements (He Leadeth Me) that will appear in their Church Pianist magazine. It wasn't a huge check, but any time I get money for doing what I love, it feels like a small triumph.
That's all I've got this week (that, and massive indigestion from two Thanksgiving dinners with two families in two days). I fully expect the coming holiday season to be a time of tremendous challenges, at least on my creative time, but with a little luck, I ought to find some time to get something useful done. In the meantime, a Happy Thanksgiving to you all, and my early wishes for a safe and joyous Christmas season.
