Saturday Summary, November 13, 2010

Every Saturday, The Creative will feature a brief post about my current creative efforts and how they are progressing.  If this doesn't interest you, read no further -- not only will I not be offended, I'll never know.  The usual creativity-centric posts will return on Sunday.

After the eventful weekend last week, this week has been fairly low-key.  There's been a bit of movement on almost every front, except for the actual music-writing front, where nothing has been done.  At all.  It kind of makes me sad.  Still, next week is another week.

Music -- As I said, there was really nothing here, but I'm starting to feel the itch forming again, so I'm hopeful I'll get a chance to write something this coming week.

Writing -- There's been quite a lot of this this week, since it's still NaNoWriMo.  I'm just shy of 30,000 words thus far, and my story itself is maybe 25% complete.  I always hope to wrap up a story during the 30 days of November, but in four years, I haven't been able to.  I'm really wanting to wrap this story up before November is over, and I think I stand a good chance of doing so.  This weekend should be fairly free, so I hope to add a goodly number of words.

Publishing -- Actually, some good news here.  I corrected a proof of a piece for AGEHR Publishing, and just got the contracts yesterday.  I also heard from Bill Griffin at Beckenhorst, and they'll be publishing my arrangement of All Creatures of Our God and King next year.

When I returned from North Carolina, I had a contract for one of my piano pieces, which Lorenz will put in one of their forthcoming Church Pianist magazines.

I've also received a CD of the newest releases from Beckenhorst and hope to have the audio files uploaded later today.

It was a good week, actually -- a lot of little victories, a lot of little advances.  It wasn't the sort of explosive breakthrough week we all dream of, but it was certainly a week that advanced my creative life.  All in all, that makes it a good week.

Anyone else have any triumphs they want to celebrate, or any disappointments they want to share so that we can all sympathize?  If so, use the comment section below.  In the meantime, join us tomorrow for some thoughts about the inner critic and how we can silence him.
