Every Saturday, The Creative will feature a brief post about my current creative efforts and how they are progressing. If this doesn't interest you, read no further -- not only will I not be offended, I'll never know. The usual creativity-centric posts will return on Sunday.
Yet again, it seems as if the week has gotten away from me. The best-laid plans of mice and men, and all that. Anyway, here's a brief synopsis of what I've done this week:
Music -- I think I added a sum total of five or six measures to my piano arrangement of Ash Grove. I also realized that several of the measures I wrote earlier just don't work. I plan to get rid of them, and that'll be that.
Writing -- I did finally get a rough draft done of the outline for what I hope will be the second of my NaNoWriMo novels. In terms of actual writing, I'm saving up my words for Monday, when National Novel Writing Month will actually be in full swing and my words will count for my monthly goal.
Publishing -- Nothing much exciting happened here except I got my composers copies of Compassion and Beneath the Cross of Jesus from Beckenhorst. Both look beautiful, and I just hope that the handbell directors out there will think they sound as good as they look.
Also, my two newest pieces from Ringing World are up on the Handbell World website: In Faith the Triumph and Requiem and Remembrance.
Part of the problem with this week was just my lack of time to create. I spent one day at school all morning, and another practicing with my wife's middle school choirs, so that sort of threw my schedule off. At some point, I'm sure I'll post about what to do when strange schedules get in the way of our creativity, but here you can see the results: not much happened. Even when I did have my time at home, though, I had trouble getting in to my creative groove.
I'm sure there will be a lot happening next week, what with NaNoWriMo starting on Monday. I'm not sure much will happen on the composing front, but who's to say?
