Every Saturday, The Creative will feature a brief post about my current creative efforts and how they are progressing. If this doesn't interest you, read no further -- not only will I not be offended, I'll never know. The usual creativity-centric posts will return on Sunday.
I'd love to say this past week was terribly creative for me, but that statement would be a creation in and of itself. That being said, there's still some news to report on all fronts:
Music -- I still have yet to put dynamics and other markings in my piano arrangement of This Is My Father's World (I've written them in in pen, just not put them in Finale yet), and I also started an arrangement of The Ash Grove. I'm trying to get 8 to 10 arrangements of pieces from England, Ireland, Wales, and Scotland for a collection I'm hoping to get published, and these two fit the bill. Other than that, my schedule just didn't allow a lot of other time for composing. I hope to do better next week.
Writing -- I actually did most of my creative work this week in the writing category. I spent quite a lot of time plotting and getting rough outlines for the two novels I'm hoping to write this NaNoWriMo. With November 1st nine days away, I'm hoping to get those outlines finished and set so that come November 1, all I have to do is follow the outlines.
Publishing -- Again, not really anything to write home about here, except for the fact that the recordings of my latest pieces from Beckenhorst are up on the New Issues page of their website. I've also copied the audio files over here on the Compositions page of jasonwkrug.com. The audio quality isn't the best -- I think sometimes they get a little overzealous with compressing the files to make them smaller for people with slow connections to download -- but they're good enough to get an idea of what the piece sounds like. I also got a copy of all the new Beckenhorst pieces, and they look like a good crop.
As you can see, it was a fairly uneventful week. I feel a bit like I'm in the lull before the storm, with the storm being NaNoWriMo and the noveling insanity it entails. I know that once November 1 hits, it's going to be an insane bout of creativity for the next thirty days, and that in and of itself is exciting. Again, if you haven't already decided to take the plunge, let me again encourage you to sign up at the National Novel Writing Month website and write your own novel in November. I promise you, whether you reach 50,000 words or not, you'll never be the same after taking the NaNoWriMo plunge.
I close this Summary with a personal plea. I see there are a small number of people following this blog -- thank you so much for being here. I hope what I've posted so far these past few weeks has been beneficial to you in your creative life. If it has, then I would ask you to please help me spread the word about this blog to anyone you think might benefit from a friendly and open community of creative people sharing their hopes and ideas, successes and failures.
