Changes are indeed afoot here at The Creative. I blame it almost entirely on Chris Guillebeau, the author of both the blog and the book, The Art of Non-Conformity. I read his book over the weekend (almost finished it in a day -- first book I've done that with in quite some time) and will talk about it more here in the future, but suffice it to say, it got me thinking about my online life and what was wrong with it.
I realized I had The Creative, my blog where I talked about how to be a creative person, and also about my own creative life; and then I had my website, jasonwkrug.com, which was sort of my promotional front page for anyone interested in my music. It didn't take a genius (just somebody giving me a proverbial kick in the pants via a 200-page book) to realize that was just messed up and needed correcting. So, a few hours of work, remembering passwords, and navigating the depths of my domain host's site, and here you have the result:
Welcome to the new Creative, with its new address of jasonwkrug.com. What you'll find here is the same content about creativity that The Creative had, plus all the information about my own creations and creative life that the old jasonwkrug.com had. Think of it as one-stop shopping for all your creative needs.
Chris (through his website) also helped me realize that by blogging so inconsistently, I was treating this blog like a hobby. The thing is, at least in my mind, it's not just a hobby -- helping the world to be a more creative place and to embrace its creativity has become a mission of mine. To that end, there will now be new posts about creativity every Wednesday and Sunday, and posts about my own ongoing creative journey every Saturday. As I overcome my own self-doubts and insecurities, I hope to add new content more frequently.
As you explore the site, you'll notice the tabs at the top. These link to other pages with information about me, my compositions (most of which have attached audio files), my biography, and links that I think will be of use to you. Right now, the site focuses heavily on music, but I hope to also include writing soon, so keep checking back. Some of the attached pages are still under construction, so please bear with me.
On the side, you'll notice a place where you can contact me to ask me your questions or to let me know about articles you'd like to find on The Creative. Please don't hesitate to email. As Chris says on his site: you're only a stranger once.
Also also, there are now buttons where you can add The Creative to some popular blog readers or get an RSS feed, and also a place where you can enter your email and have The Creative delivered straight to your inbox. I really want to thank the folks over at Blogger Tricks for all their wonderful and helpful articles that helped me get this site looking even half as good as it does now.
There are many more changes in store, so keep exploring over the coming days and weeks. I'll highlight some of the more important changes here in the blog (including one I'm really excited about coming next Wednesday ... but I'm a strange guy, so it may just be exciting to me).
Thank you, dear reader, for being here. If you like what you're reading, if you want to be more creative in your life, then by all means -- bookmark the page, add it to your blog feed, subscribe to get the email updates, and most importantly, spread the word about The Creative. The address is easier than ever to remember: jasonwkrug.com.
Now, quit reading, get out there, and make something of your day.
Nice redesign! Keep up the great work and thanks for the props.
