Oh How Beautiful ...

I think I've just seen one of the most beautiful sights a handbell ringer can view -- four cases of freshly-refurbished handbells. We sent our three octaves of bells back to Schulmerich for the complete refurbishment, a $3,000+ procedure where they replace every part of the bell except the bronze casing itself. It's basically like getting three new octaves of handbells.

They still look a bit funny through the plastic baggies (I just couldn't bring myself to take them out of the bags until my ringers got a chance to see them looking silver like they should be, not tarnish-gold like they usually are), but the color is brilliant, and when I opened the cases, there was something else which came out of the cases -- potential. I don't know what songs, what glorious music these "new" bells will make, but whatever direction our handbell program goes, wherever our music-making takes us, these bells are now perfectly ready to get us there.

And I can't wait to take the trip!
